Excessive gassiness can become a burden on everyday life as you dread going to work because your belly will start cramping as you try and hold gas in.

It can become very hard to hide it from co-workers if you work in an office or in proximity to others which will make you not look forward to going every day.

Not being able to enjoy going to work or any other everyday activities because of excessive farting can get you down.

It is time to put a stop to it so you can enjoy your life and work once more. The best way to put a stop to farting is to make a change in your diet.

Unless your excessive farting is related to a health condition, your doctor will not prescribe you anything but will tell you to change your diet.

To save the time having to find out all the different foods you should and shouldn’t be eating, I have put together a list of all the natural remedies that will stop your farting for you.

flatulence

What Is Flatulence

What Causes Flatulence

Before I go through the natural remedies for flatulence, though, I want first to explain what it is.

We all know that it is an unpleasant noise that comes from our behinds that are usually accompanied by an unpleasant smell, but what actually is it?

As we digest food, our digestive system will generate intestinal gas, otherwise known as flatus.

It is this flatus that needs to escape our bodies by either through the mouth by burping or through the rectal cavity by farting.

What may be surprising is that the flatus is actually odorless when it sits in the intestines.

The smell that we associate with gas is actually from the bacteria in our digestive tract and not from the intestinal gas itself.

How do you know if you have excessive gas and not just a bit of normal gas? You might be shocked to hear that people pass the wind, on average, up to 21 times a day.

Anything over this would be considered excessive.

However, if you can’t control it so much so that it becomes embarrassing, then this can also be classed as excessive even if the number of times you pass the wind is below 21 times a day.

If you feel that you are passing the wind more than 21 times a day or can’t control it, then keep on reading to discover which natural remedies can help stop it.

What Causes GassinessWhat Causes Flatulence

Now that you know what flatulence is, it is also important to understand what causes it so that you can stop it.

The majority of the time, gassiness is caused because of the food that we eat which is why it is recommended to change your diet if you want to stop it.

There are certain foods in particular though that cause gassiness such as beans. You’ve probably heard the poem “Beans beans the musical fruit. The more you eat, The more you toot” so already know that beans make you fart.

There are many other foods you might be consuming though that you’re not aware causes gas.

What Foods Contribute To FlatulenceHealthy Diet

Foods that cause flatulence are foods that are high in cellulose as your body finds these harder to digest fully.

This is because our digestive tract is too short to break down the polysaccharides which are what these foods are made up of.

When your digestive system isn’t able to fully digest food, it will turn it into gas to escape the body.

Here are foods that are high in polysaccharides:

  • Beans
  • Root vegetables such as onions, garlic and scallions
  • Lentils
  • Dairy products
  • Green vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage and sprouts

Not only do these food cause gas but they can also lead to a much more strongly smelling gas and can make you feel bloated.

If you find that the gas you are passing has a very nasty smell, then these foods could very well be the culprit.

Many people who look at what could be causing their gassiness tend to look at what they have eaten that day however most of the foods mentioned above tend to be eaten during the evening.

This means that you should most likely think about what you had to eat the night before rather than on the day.

The best way to know which foods are causing your excessive gassiness is to keep a food diary.

This will help you determine whether there is a pattern where you have gotten a bad cramp and farting after eating a particular food the night before. You can then remove this food from your diet to stop farting excessively.

What Health Conditions Cause Flatulence

While the majority of the time excessive farting is because of the food we eat, it can also be because of a health condition.

It could very well be that the excessive flatulence isn’t the problem but rather a symptom of a condition instead.

While natural remedies are great for flatulence that is caused by food, it is recommended to visit a doctor if it is caused by an underlying health condition.

If you’re unsure, then it is always best to visit your doctor.

If you feel that you are eating all the right things and drinking plenty of water, then it could be possible that your excessive farting is a symptom rather than the problem.

Excessive flatulence is most commonly related to digestive system conditions such as constipation.

Constipation doesn’t just mean that you’re finding it hard to defecate as people with constipations can still pass faeces.

One of the main reasons why excessive farting happens during constipation is because defecating when constipated can leave faeces in the colon.

Excessive farting can also be a symptom of a more serious condition such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) which is still a hard condition for doctors to diagnose.

Doctors believe that IBS is mostly affected by psychological matters such as stress, depression and anxiety although more evidence is needed to certify this. If you’re not stressed, depressed or suffer from anxiety, then you may not have IBS, but it is always recommended to visit a doctor if unsure.

How To Stop Gassiness

Now that you know a lot more about what gassiness is and what causes it, it is time to get down to why you’re here… how to stop it.

As mentioned before, the best way to stop your farting is by using natural remedies.

These natural remedies will not only work to stop your farting fast but will also help to avoid it becoming excessive again.

If you head to the pharmacy for help with your excessive farting, they may recommend laxatives as a lot of the medication on the market for gassiness is also for constipation.

The problem with this though is that laxatives encourage your body to defecate more which isn’t necessarily what you need for excessive farting.

This could do your digestive system more harm than good.

This is why natural remedies are the best choice to stop your farting fast and keep it at bay in the long term.

Natural remedies have much fewer side effects than processed medications which are the main reason it is the better option.

The only reason people tend to go for the processedbmedications is because they are less of an effort than making diet changes.

However, in the long run, they aren’t the best option as you can’t continue to take the medication for the rest of your life whereas with natural remedies, you can make the change for life.

Now that I have you sold on using natural remedies, here are plenty of natural remedies that you can try for your excessive farting:

Herbal TeaHerbal Treatment

This is a very simple recipe for a lovely fresh herbal tea that will help to stop your excessive farting fast.

Herbal tea is such a great and easy natural remedy that will help with any digestive system illness and in particular, excessive gassiness.

The ingredients for this recipe can easily be found in any supermarket or online and certainly won’t break the bank. Or you can easily buy one of the best herbal tea supplement that all the nutritionist recommend.

Ingredients

To make your herbal tea, you’re going to need the following ingredients:

  • 1 oz. Chamomile
  • 1 oz. Crushed Caraway Seeds
  • 1 oz. Peppermint Leaves
  • 1 oz. Crushed Fennel Seeds

How To Make It

One thing to note is that you don’t have to use exactly 1 oz. of each ingredient above, you can use more or less but make sure that you use equal parts of all ingredients.

After your first taste, you will be able to make it as strong or as weak as you like.

To start with, though, use one heaped teaspoon of the mixed ingredient mixture and place it in a mug. Pour into the boiling water and let is steep for around 10 minutes.

You can also change how long you let it steep for depending on how strong you like it.

Once it has finished steeping, you can strain the mixture out of the mug using a sieve or tea strainer.

This tea will help to push air out of the intestines which will reduce the build-up of gas and ultimately your excessive farting.

It will also help to reduce the chances of constipation and other digestive system problems.

If you don’t like this tea or just want more than one to choose from then another good herbal tea for flatulence is yarrow and chamomile tea.

You can make this in the same as you make the previous herbal tea. You will need to use equal parts of both ingredients to make this tea, just like with the previous herbal tea.

This yarrow and chamomile herbal tea will not only help with your excessive farting but also with uncomfortable bloating which tends to come with excessive farting.

Why It Helps

So why do herbal teas help stop farting fast?

The main reason they work is that they reduce the amount of gas that is produced in your digestive tract.

This reduction in gas will lead to a reduction in those nasty loud farts. You’re best to get all the ingredients for both herbal teas so that you can have a bit of variety.

They are also great to have before going to sleep to stop farting in your sleep.

You can make a mixture of herbal tea and place it in a container to store at your workplace so that you can stop any bouts of farting fast.

If you genuinely enjoy the taste of these herbal teas, then they can be replacement drinks instead of coffee.

They are much better for your overall health and are much better in taste.

Nutritional Seeds

Flax Seeds

Another addition you can add to your diet to stop your excessive farting is nutritional seeds.

There are three main nutritional seeds that are the best for stopping flatulence, though.

These are flax seeds, chia seeds and fennel seeds. I have gone into each of these in a lot more detail.

Flax Seeds

Flax seeds will be a great addition to your diet as they are high in omega 3 and fiber.

As well as helping with digestive system irritations, flax seeds can also help reduce inflammation, lower blood glucose levels and lower cholesterol.

The benefits of adding flax seeds don’t just end there as they also taste good. When you come across food that is healthy and tasty, it is an absolute must.

You can buy flax seeds that are already grounded from supermarkets, or you can buy whole seeds and ground them yourself.

Whichever you choose, you can add the grounded flax seeds to almost any meal or snacks such as your cereal, smoothies, soups, yoghurt, salads and more.

The only thing you need to be cautious of is that flax seeds can cause constipation if you don’t drink your 8 glasses of water a day.

To avoid constipation, start adding 1 teaspoon of flax seeds to your food and increase once your digestive system has adjusted.

I wouldn’t add more than 4 tablespoons at a time, though.

Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are packed full of vitamins and minerals as well as omega 3 fatty acids which are beneficial for our digestive systems.

Although these tiny black seeds are packed with all this goodness, they have only really just started to become popular in America.

They were mainly consumed in native South America who has been adding chia seeds to their food for centuries.

Just as with flax seeds, you can add doses of chia seeds to your meals and snacks to add more nutrition.

The only difference between chia seeds and flax seeds is that you won’t have to grind chia seeds to consume like you do with flax seeds.

However if you buy flax seeds already grounded, then there is no reason not to have both flax seeds and chia seeds in your diet.

One important thing to remember is that even though flax seeds and chia seeds contain good amounts of omega 3 fatty acids, they do not contain DHA and EPA as found in fish oil.

For this reason, it is still recommended to have fish in your diet or to have fish oil supplements.

Fennel Seeds

Fennel seeds are one of the best nutritional seeds you can add to your diet to get rid of flatulence as it acts fast.

You can be relieved of uncomfortable flatulence in just 5 to 10 minutes after having fennel seeds.

They are great to have in work so as to avoid those embarrassing situations that make you dread every day.

As well as helping to stop your farting, they are also a great natural remedy to help relieve heavy bloating.

You can consume fennel seeds in two different ways; the first is to eat them and the second is to drink them.

You can eat them by slowly chewing a teaspoon of fennel seeds to make sure they are broken down to be easily digested.

You can also make fennel tea by adding a small amount of fennel seeds to boiling water and letting it steep for 4 to 9 minutes.

Keeping fennel seeds in your home and your workplace is recommended to stop quickly farting.

Natural Digestive Enzymes

Another natural remedy that helps to stop your farting are natural digestive enzymes as they help to break down the food in your digestive tract.

If you remember earlier, I said that anything that can’t be digested will cause farting which is why these natural digestive enzymes work so well.

They will mostly help with women though as women tend not to produce enough enzymes to be able to break fully down the food they eat.

There are specific fruits that contain enzymes such as pineapple and papaya. To help stop farting, you can eat either pineapple, papaya or both around 15 to 30 minutes before you eat dinner.

Digestive Enzyme Supplements

Flax Seeds

As well as eating particular fruits, there are also digestive enzyme supplements that will help you to stop farting.

Because women tend to produce lower levels of enzymes, enzyme supplements may be the better option if you want to stop your farting fast.

These supplements will help your digestive system break down foods that are hard to break down such as foods that are high in fiber or fats.

There are many digestive enzyme supplements on the market, but I recommend that you only stick to the ones that are of the highest quality.

Look out for enzyme supplements that are labelled as natural as these are the best to have.

For the best results, it is best to take a supplement around 30 to 45 minutes before eating a meal that has foods high in fiber or fats.

Why It Helps

If you don’t have enough digestive enzymes in your system, then your digestive system won’t be able to break down foods.

This means that your body won’t be able to absorb all the nutrients from the foods you eat and will also cause gassiness.

The gas produced from foods that have not been broken down can damage the lining of your digestive tract. Another thing it can cause is constipation.

Eating pineapple and papaya or taking a digestive enzyme supplement before eating will help your digestive system break down the food.

This will, in turn, help to stop your farting as well as reduce bloat and relieve constipation.

Feed The Good Bacteria

Not all bacteria are bad; you will have good bacteria in your colon that will help it function at its best.

There are a number of different types of good bacteria which are:

  • Lactobacillus acidophilus
  • Bifidobacterium infantis
  • Lactobacillus salivarius
  • Streptococcus faecium
  • Bifidobacterium bifidum

One of the best things you can do to stop farting is to feed the good bacteria so that it can better fight off the bad bacteria to improve your colon functioning.

There is one food that can help to do this, and that is culture yoghurt. All you need to do to feed the good bacteria in your digestive system is to eat goat’s milk yoghurt in between your meals.

While goat’s milk yoghurt is more expensive than standard yoghurt, it will work wonders on your digestive system and stop your farting fast.

Definitely, worth it if you ask me!

Probiotic Supplements

If having goat’s milk yoghurt isn’t something that appeals to you then there are other options for feeding the good bacteria.

One of these options is to take probiotic supplements which can either be bought in liquid form or as a pill.

Don’t take these when eating as the stomach acid from eating will destroy the good bacteria in the supplement which means it won’t work.

If you want a probiotic supplement to help you stop farting, then I recommend choosing a supplement that has a few good species of bacteria.

This way, they are more likely to survive when passing through your digestive tract.

The good bacteria found in the probiotic supplement needs to survive going through the digestive tract so that it can keep full potency in the colon to work at its best.

Shiatsu MassageMassage

Not all natural remedies are food;there are other natural remedies that will be able to help you stop farting.

One of these remedies is getting a shiatsu massage which can help relieve congestion just like acupuncture.

The reason this works for stopping farting is because it unblocks ‘energy channels’.

This means that if you have a blocked digestive meridian (which can cause bloating and farting) then getting a shiatsu massage will help to unblock it leading to relief from bloating and stopping your farting.

A shiatsu massage works specifically for a blocked digestive meridian by targeting certain pressure points along the meridian.

It is best to visit a professional masseuse as they will know these pressure points and how to target them.

Which Pressure Points To Target

If you learn and understand the different pressure points that can help unblock your digestion Meridian, then you won’t have to pay for a professional as you can do it yourself.

This means that you can relieve yourself of farting fast.

All you need to stop farting is find the pressure point and press hard on it for a minute and then release.

You can do this, however, many times until the farting stops for a few minutes waiting time in between each massage.

One of the pressure points to target is on the bottom of your feet. Use your thumb to find the pressure point which will be on the arch of your foot and about a finger’s width away from the ball of your foot.

Once you have massaged that foot, do it on the other foot and wait a few minutes. If the farting hasn’t stopped, then repeat the process until it does stop.

Some Other Natural Remedies

While these are the best natural remedies to try and stop your farting fast, they are not the only ones.

There are plenty of other natural remedies you can have to stop your farting fast. Some of these natural remedies are:

Ginger

Ginger

Adding ginger to your dinner or smoothies can help to reduce the amount of gas that is produced in your stomach.

Ginger won’t actually get rid of gas but will contribute to prevent it from happening.

If you want to stop your farting fast, then you can simply eat a few small piece of ginger raw rather than having to wait to have dinner.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a great natural remedy for bloating, but it can also help stop farting fast.

All you have to do to stop your farting fast is add a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to a cup of hot boiling water and drink it slowly.

You may be tempted to drink it fast to stop your farting fast, but it is important for your digestive system that you drink it slowly. This is a great natural remedy to have in work because of how convenient and easy it is to make and consume.

Peppermint

Peppermint tea can work wonders on an upset stomach that is bloated. It can help quickly stop farting but can also be drunk 2 to 3 times a day so as to keep gassiness at bay.

You can make peppermint tea yourself by simply adding a couple of peppermint leaves to a cup of hot water… that is it!

This is yet another natural remedy that you can take to work with you for fast relief.

Yellow Mustard

You may be surprised at this one, but yellow mustard can actually help to stop gassiness fast.

All you need to do is eat a teaspoon of yellow mustard and let it do its work. If you can find a yellow mustard that has turmeric in then even better as turmeric is also a great natural remedy for gassiness.

Activated Charcoal Tablets

If your bloating is really quite severe and your farting is really quite smelly, then a stronger natural remedy is probably needed.

To combat this problem and make it stop fast, you will need to be activated charcoal tablets.

Activated charcoal tablets will absorb the excess gas in your stomach and will also absorb bad toxins that are causing the nasty smell.

You can keep a container of these in work as well as at home to relieve severe bloating and stop your farting quickly.

Baking Soda And Lemon

Not only is this natural remedy fast, but it is also instant.

All you need to do is squeeze one lemon into a glass of water and then add a teaspoon of baking soda.

Give the water a good mix so the lemon juice and baking soda are mixed in well. This will initially fizz so drink it once the fizz has died down.

This is again, another natural remedy that can be used at work as well as at home.

Conclusion

That is pretty much everything you need to know how to stop farting fast!

All of the natural remedies in this guide are completely easy to make and to consume as I know convenience is important.

If you have tried a variety of these natural remedies and are still suffering from excessive farting, then I recommend booking an appointment with your doctor to double check there is no underlying condition.

Remember that certain foods can cause flatulence because the process of digestion does not take place correctly. Another factor is food intolerance which is an issue you might want to seek medical advice for.

Have you tried a natural remedy that works wonders that I haven’t mentioned?

I want to hear them all so leave them in the comments below.
