Are you suffering from constipation?

Are you looking for ways to get rid of it and fast? You’re not alone as constipation is one of the most common medical conditions in the western world.

If you’re reading this now, then I’m guessing you have constipation and are feeling very uncomfortable right now.

Hopefully, I can help you feel better by giving you a list of natural remedies you can use to cure your constipation and fast.

Constipation is mostly common in women however men do also suffer from constipation too.

The NIDDK found that more than 4 million of Americans suffered from constipation every single year.

They also found that a massive $725 million is spent on laxatives every year because of it.

That is a lot of money to spend when there are natural remedies out there that do an even better job and are much cheaper… if not free.

What Is Constipation

As we eat food, our digestive system will break it down so that the body can absorb all the nutrients and water.

However the digestive system cannot break all food down and so this then becomes a stool, more commonly known as poo.

Once stool has been formed, the intestine muscles will work to push the stool through the colon and out through the rectum.

This entire process should be easy and natural.

When you have constipation, it means that the muscles that work to push the stool through colon are not performing.

This lack of performance will result in irregular bowel movements which will cause your stool to be hard and dry.

Stools that are hard and dry will be able very hard to pass.

The Different Types Of Constipation

The term “constipation” is an umbrella term that covers two different types of constipation.

Many people don’t know that there is more than one type of constipation, so it is a good idea to be familiar with them.

The different types of constipation are organic constipation and functional constipation.

Organic constipation happens when there has been a change in your body. This type of constipation should be seen by a doctor and isn’t as common which is why I won’t go into it.

It is best to seek advice from your doctor in this instance.

Functional constipation happens by not eating well, not drinking enough water, having high-stress levels and leading an improper lifestyle.

All of these things can lead to you having constipation. I will be talking just about functional constipation in this guide.

How Do You Know If You Have Constipation

Most of the time, people just simply know when they are suffering from constipation, but since I’m explaining constipation, it is worth stating what the symptoms of constipation are just in case you’re not sure.

You will know if you have constipation of you have any of the following:

  • 1. Less than three bowel movements in a week
  • 2. Stools are hard, dry and possibly even lumpy
  • 3. It is difficult and maybe even painful to pass stools
  • 4. You strain when trying to pass stools
  • 5. Have the feeling that you haven’t emptied your bowels after passing stool

What Causes Constipation

Now that you know what constipation is and what the symptoms of constipation are, do you know what causes constipation?

Constipation is most commonly caused by having too much-processed food in your diet and therefore, a change of diet is recommended.

Processed foods usually have a lot of calories but the very little nutritional value which is why digestive systems find it hard to break processed foods down.

Eating too much-processed foods can actually cause harm by weakening the wall of your colon.

Weakening the colon wall will make it hard to push stool through the colon.

Because processed food is difficult to push through the colon, your intestine muscles will start to tire and eventually give up altogether.

This will then result in constipation.

Can Constipation Be Serious

Not many people realize that constipation can be quite harmful to your health. It can make you very lethargic and uncomfortable however it can be more serious than that.

If you continue to have constipation and don’t pass stool, then it could certainly lead to more serious medical conditions.

If your body isn’t getting rid of wasted food by producing stool then all those toxins, harmful germs, and dead cells will be left sitting in your body which will cause harm.

If wasted food is left decaying in your body then the following medical conditions could be a result:

  • 1. Fecal Impaction
  • 2. Varicose Veins
  • 3. Hemorrhoids (Piles)
  • 4. Anal Tears And Fissures
  • 5. A Prolapsed Rectum
  • 6. Diverticular Disease

How To Get Rid Of Constipation Immediately And Naturally

There are so many different ways to get rid of your constipation floating around the website which is why I have brought them all together in one place.

Everyone is different and so what might work brilliantly for others might not work brilliantly for you.

I would try each until you find one that cures your constipation quickly.

All of the natural constipation remedies found in this list are effective in getting rid of constipation as well as improve your overall health.

I would advise the use of natural remedies more than drugstore remedies however as this is a guide; I will explain both, so you have a complete understanding.

Laxatives From The Drugstore

While I recommend curing your constipation using natural remedies, I think it is important to understand all the options so you can make the decision for yourself.

People tend to go for drugstore laxatives because they seem so convenient, but they are only a short-term cure and don’t have any health benefits.

Drugstore laxatives can be quite harmful to your body which not many people know about.

They contain adverse chemicals which can cause some side effects such as increased thirst, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting and more.

If these drugstore laxatives are used for a prolonged period, then they can overstimulate nerves which will lead to nerve damage.

As mentioned earlier, it is important for the body to absorb the water and nutrients from consumed food but sometimes drugstore laxatives push the food through your digestive system too quickly meaning the body doesn’t have time to absorb the goodness. Check out some of the best laxative here!

different laxatives

The Different Types Of Laxatives

Not all laxatives are the same which again; not many people are aware of. There are five different types of drugstore laxatives which I have explained in more detail below.

Not only are there five different types of drugstore laxatives but there are some laxatives that combine some these different types and sometimes even all five.

Laxatives that have a combination of different types can be harmful to your body and cause damage so I would stay away from these types altogether.

The five different types of drugstore laxatives are:

  • 1. Stool Softening Laxatives – mostly works in 1 to 4 days
  • 2. Bulk Creating Laxatives – mostly works in 1 to 3 days
  • 3. Lubricant Laxatives – mostly works in 5 to 9 hours
  • 4. Stimulant Laxatives – mostly works in 6 to 24 hours
  • 5. Saline Laxatives – mostly works in 1 to 3 hours

Stool Softening Laxatives

These stool softening laxatives contain emollients which help to mix oil and water.

Stool softening laxatives help to bring water in to soften your stools so that they will be easier to pass.

Constipation causes stool to harden and become dry which is why passing can be a struggle and even painful at times.

They take 1 to 4 days to start working so aren’t a quick remedy which is why they are commonly used to prevent constipation rather than stop it.

However, this prolonged period of use can cause harm as I mentioned earlier.

Bulk Creating Laxatives

Another drugstore laxative type is the bulk creating laxatives which are the safest of all the drugstore laxatives and can be used for a longer period too.

The ingredients in this drugstore laxative have qualities that resemble foods high in fiber.

This will help to create bulkier and heavier stools as well as help trap water for easy passing.

Creating bulkier and heavier stools will trigger the colon to make a bowel movement.

Bulk Creating Laxatives are the better choice of drugstore laxatives because it gives your body fiber which is a natural remedy for constipation.

Even though it is a safe option, an even better option would be to get your fiber from the food source itself.

Lubricant Laxatives

Rather than draw water in like the stool softener, the lubricant laxative will add a layer of lubrication to the walls of the intestines which will help stool to pass more easily through your digestive tract.

There are two further types of laxatives that fall under lubricant laxatives.

The first is the mineral oil lubricant laxative and the second is the glycerin oil lubricant laxative.

The mineral oil lubricant laxative is to be taken orally whereas the glycerin oil lubricant laxative is to be taken rectally.

If your stools are severely hard and dry, then it is usually recommended to use the glycerine oil lubricant laxative if you choose to use a drugstore laxative.

Lubricant laxatives tend to work in 1 to 4 hours which is great if you want to cure your constipation quickly.

Stimulant Laxatives

The stimulant laxative pretty much does what it says… it stimulates.

In more detail, it stimulates the intestine muscles to start working again to push stools through the colon.

While this sounds like exactly what you need to cure your constipation, it is something that people should stay away from.

The reasons why stimulant laxatives should be avoided are because your intestinal muscles can learn to depend on them.

As well as causing your intestinal muscles to become dependent on these laxatives to function, they could also damage these muscles which will make your constipation worse.

If you do for some reason use stimulant laxatives, make sure that it is only rarely used to avoid these consequences.

Saline Laxatives

Saline laxatives work by drawing water into your digestive tract which will then help to encourage bowel movement.

The main reason people use saline laxatives is because they only take one to three hours to work so can provide instant constipation relief.

As with all drugstore laxatives, saline laxatives come with their side effects. Because they draw water to work and work so quickly, they can cause an imbalance which will cause you to have intense thirst and dehydration.

A word of warning on saline laxatives; they can cause damage to your kidneys if you take high doses.

For this reason, it is important that you avoid saline laxatives if you have kidney problems or weak kidneys.

Herbal Laxatives

Now that I have explained all there is to know about drugstore laxatives, it is time to get onto the good stuff and why you’re here.

I have listed a ton of home remedies for constipation that you can take to stop your constipation and prevent it happening again.

Herbal laxatives will do the same as drugstore laxatives by helping the intestinal muscles to push stools through the colon as well as soften stools to make it easier to push.

The difference between drugstore laxatives and herbal laxatives is that the herbal laxatives are natural and come straight from the source so contain no chemicals or are processed.

How To Get Rid Of Constipation Immediately and Naturally

Strong Herbal Laxatives

There are some herbal laxatives that are strong and should only be used when you’re suffering from severe constipation.

Some of these strong herbal laxatives include buckthorn, senna, aloe and cascara sagrada.

They work by irritating the nerves on the colon wall which will then stimulate bowel movement to relieve constipation.

The reason they should only be used when you have severe constipation is because when they work to irritate the colon wall, it can cause quite a lot of pain.

I mentioned earlier that your intestinal muscles can become dependent on the overuse of drugstore laxatives; the same applies to these strong herbal laxatives too.

The reason both drugstore laxatives and herbal laxatives have this similarity is because these strong herbals can be found in drugstore laxatives.

Moderate To Mild Herbal Laxatives

One of the healthiest ways to cure your constipation is to use moderate and mild herbal laxatives.

Not only will they help to cure your constipation but they will also help improve your overall health and prevent any further bouts of constipation.

The reason I recommend these herbal remedies the most is because the goodness comes directly from the source with no processing or chemicals.

Some of these mild and moderate herbal laxatives include black seeds, flax seeds, certified organic cloves and slippery elm.

Instead of just taking one herbal remedy from the list below, it is best to create a mixture of these herbal remedies.

Combining these herbal remedies will help to get rid of your constipation a lot quicker than having them individually.

Black Seeds

Black seeds are incredibly high in fiber which is just what you need to encourage healthier bowel movements.

They will also help to improve the overall health of your digestive system to prevent any digestive conditions.

This will be a great addition to your herbal remedy mixture as it will help remove unwanted toxins from your digestive tract and help your bowel movements to become a lot more regular.

Olive Leaves

Olive leaf will help give you relief from being uncomfortable during constipation.

Not only will it help to relieve you from being uncomfortable and in pain, but it also has an ingredient called oleuropein which helps your bowel movements become more regular.

Olive leaves will help to eliminate the toxins from your digestive system to help stop your constipation.

Flax Seeds

Flax seeds are one of the best herbal remedies you can add to your herbal mixture as it has so many laxative properties. Flax seeds are perfect for if you have mild to moderate constipation.

What you probably don’t know is that using flax seeds as a cure for constipation isn’t a new thing.

They have been used to cure constipation for years, even dating back to ancient Egypt.

Flax Seeds have high amounts of fiber and omega 3 fatty acids which are both elements that you want to find in an herbal laxative.

Flax seeds also have so many other health benefits and should, therefore, be a staple food in your diet.

You can add a tablespoon of flax seeds to anything such as your cereal, salads, yogurt, smoothies, and soups.

Just make sure that you grind flax seeds and not have them whole as they won’t work.

Cascara Sagrada

Cascara sagrada is an herbal laxative that has some strong properties. It works by irritating the wall of the colon which will cause the colon to start contracting.

This will be the better option if your constipation is particularly bad. As with the other herbal laxatives on this list, mix it with some other herbal laxatives so that it can get to work quickly and so you can benefit from a number of different health properties.

Cascara sagrada contains both chrysophanic acid and emodin which both work to encourage bowel movements to relieve constipation.

When you combine it with other herbal laxatives, it will also work to detox the colon and tone the colon walls too.

It is important to note though that cascara sagrada should not be taken regularly.

Once your constipation has been cured, do not use cascara sagrada again for at least 30 days even if your constipation returns during this 30 day waiting period.

Certified Organic Cloves

These certified organic cloves will help stop your constipation by removing unwelcome organisms from your digestive tract.

Removing these organisms will free up any obstacle in bowel so that it can function normally and cleanse your gut at the same time. Certified organic cloves will certainly be a great addition to your diet.

Senna

Hydroxyanthracene glycoside compounds, otherwise known as sennosides, are found in senna.

These compounds are what will help cure your constipation by allowing your bowel movements to become more regular and smoother.

As well as encouraging the bowels to regulate, Senna will also help to soften stools so that passing isn’t as uncomfortable or painful and becomes easy once more.

Slippery Elm

Slippery elm will be a great addition to your herbal laxative mixture as it can do two things; the first being that it can soothe the digestive system and the second is that it can give a much-needed detox to your digestive system. It will help calm down your irritated intestines by detoxing and removing unwanted toxins.

Adding slippery elm to your herbal laxative mixture works by irritating the digestive tract nerves to produce more mucus secretions. This mucus will then coat your gut to give relief from any sores and ulcers. Slippery elm is very high in fiber so is a perfect natural remedy for constipation.

Bentonite

Bentonite is a clay substance that is formed from volcanic ash and will work to get rid of your constipation by removing unwanted toxins from your colon. Bentonite can carry all those bad toxins out of your body because of its high sodium content which works to bind together those hazardous toxins.

This is best taken though with food that is high in fiber so that it can thoroughly clean out your colon as well as feed the good bacteria to prevent any future bouts of constipation.

Turkey Rhubarb

Turkey rhubarb is another very powerful herbal remedy that will give your intestines a much needed cleanse to help get rid of your constipation.

This is another herbal remedy that has been used to cure constipation and to help improve your digestive system for hundreds of years.

This natural remedy works miracles on your digestive system by cleansing it of clogged mucus, decaying fecal material and excess waste that all contribute to constipation.

One thing to note is that because turkey rhubarb is such a powerful herbal remedy, it must be mixed with other herbal remedies to reduce some of that laxative power.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is another herbal remedy that has been used for constipation for hundreds of years and is truly a wonder herb.

Aloe vera is used for a number of conditions both internal and external, some of which you are probably already aware of.

It is most commonly used for skin rashes, internal bleeding, burns, and ulcers.

It isn’t as well known for getting rid of constipation, but it certainly does the trick.

It will help encourage regular bowel movements as well as cleanse the colon of toxins.

Peppermint

Peppermint is like aloe vera in that it has so many health benefits that I’d be here all day!

One thing that it can do though is help improve the health of your digestive system by working on encouraging the production of bile.

This bile fluid will help provide a soothing effect on the lining of your gut.

Wormseed

Wormseed is used to get rid of constipation fast as it acts as a purifier for the intestinal tract.

It will help purify your intestinal tract of all bad bacteria without removing or damaging any of the good bacteria.

This will all help to allow your bowel movements to become regular once again and help to prevent constipation and even diarrhea.

Thyme Oil Powder

Thyme oil power is another herbal laxative that acts as a purifier.

It is a good choice of herb to add to your herbal remedy mixture as it will soothe your digestive system and cleanse away bad toxins to help get rid of your constipation.

Garlic Extract

Garlic extract is an option that should be used in your herbal laxative mixture as it will help improve your immune system as well as feeding the good bacteria in your digestive system so it can flourish.

This is a great herb to have as a staple in your diet to promote good health.

Flax Seed Oil

There is one natural remedy in particular that I want to go into more detail because of how beneficial it is to get rid of your constipation quickly.

This fantastic natural remedy is flax seed oil.

Flax seeds have been a natural remedy for a lot of things for thousands of years because of how high in fiber it is and how high in omega 3 fatty acids it is.

However flax seed oil does not have any fiber in as after processing, only the oil is left.

This is not a bad thing though as the oil of flax seeds can help get rid of constipation but adding a layer of lubricant to your intestines to make passing more smoother and easy.

Flax seed oil is entirely different to the mineral oil found in some drugstore laxatives as mineral oil reduces vitamins A, D, E, and K whereas flax seed oil does not.

flax seed oil

Why It Helps

The main job of the colon is to absorb the water from the foods you have eaten and send this water into the body.

If the colon is functioning slowly, then it will form hard and dry stool which is associated with constipation.

If the colon is functioning quickly, then it will form stools that are wet and loose which are associated with diarrhea.

It is important for the colon to find a medium balance, so your bowel movements are easy.

Flax seed oil will help your colon find this balance by keeping it lubricated so your stools can pass through easily but not too quickly.

The omega 3 contents of the flax seed oil will also act as an anti-inflammatory which will soothe the digestive system.

Some Other Remedies

Now that I have covered off the main remedies you can use to get rid of constipation; I also want to cover off some other remedies that others have found have worked for them.

Again, I would recommend sticking with the natural herbal remedies I listed above, but it’s always good to know all of your options.

Coffee for constipation

Coffee

This isn’t something that I would recommend as it doesn’t always work for everyone.

The reason coffee can help get rid of constipation is because it stimulates your digestive system to get moving.

This doesn’t mean that you should drink gallons of coffee when you have constipation, though. You shouldn’t drink more than two cups of coffee a day.

Exercise

There is no exact scientific evidence for this one, but many people who have suffered from constipation have said that exercising has helped to stop it and prevent it.

This is probably because moving your body will help stimulate the movement of your internal muscles too including intestinal muscles.

Baking Soda

Baking soda can work wonders for the stomach by neutralizing the acid in the stomach. It will also encourage the release of gas from the stomach which will provide some immediate constipation relief.

All you need to do is put 1 teaspoon of baking soda into a quarter cup of warm water and drink it.

Epsom Salt

Epsom salt will help to soften stools so they are easier to pass which will help get rid of your constipation.

All you need to do is put two teaspoons of Epsom salt in a glass of fruit juice or water and drink it. As well as a softening stool, Epsom salt will also encourage bowel muscles to contract.

You can use standard salt to soften stools however it won’t encourage bowel movements and so Epsom salt is best.

Conclusion

Natural remedies to get rid of constipation are the most recommended because of their added health benefits.

Natural remedies also have much lower side effects than drugstore laxatives which seem to be the most popular choice even though they can be harmful.

Though natural remedies don’t have the same side effects as the drugstore laxatives do, they’re highly available and are more safe. They are easier to find and most can be grown right in the comforts of home.

Are you looking for ways to get rid of constipation fast? You’re not alone as constipation is one of the most common medical conditions in the western world.

If you’re reading this, then I’m guessing you are feeling very uncomfortable right now. Hopefully, I can help you feel better by giving you a list of natural remedies you can use to cure quickly your constipation.

Constipation is more common in women, however men suffer from constipation too. The NIDDK found that more than 4 million Americans suffered from constipation every year. They also found that a massive $725 million is spent annually on laxatives. That is a surprising, since there are natural remedies out there that do an even better job and are much cheaper… if not free.

What Is Constipation

As food moves through the digestive system, it is liquefied so that the body can absorb nutrients. But the water is precious too, and must be reabsorbed. However, the digestive system cannot break all food down and so this then becomes a stool, or feces. The colon functions to recover water from the stool before it is pushed out through the rectum by intestine muscles in a bowel movement. This entire process should be easy and natural.

Constipation comes from when the muscles that work to push the stool through colon are not performing, resulting in irregular bowel movements that will cause your stool to be hard, dry and hard to pass.

The Different Types Of Constipation

Many people do not know that constipation is an umbrella term that covers two different types: organic and functional. It is a good idea to be familiar with both of them.

Organic constipation is the result of various physical abnormalities or chronic illnesses. Organic constipation is less common, and its sufferers are likely seeing a doctor for it.

Functional constipation is caused by poor diet, insufficient water intake, or high stress. Constipation can also be caused by anal sex. This guide will cover functional constipation.

What Causes Constipation

Constipation is most commonly caused by diets filled with processed food, and can be cured by a change of diet. Processed foods are usually calorie-rich but nutrition-poor. They are hard to break down, and can weaken the walls of the colon, making it hard to push stool through. This difficulty can cause your intestinal muscles to tire and eventually give up, resulting in constipation.

Can Constipation Be Serious

Constipation can cause more than discomfort and lethargy. Chronic constipation can be an indication of more serious medical conditions, including:

  • 1. Fecal Impaction
  • 2. Varicose Veins
  • 3. Hemorrhoids (Piles)
  • 4. Anal Tears And Fissures
  • 5. A Prolapsed Rectum
  • 6. Diverticular Disease

How To Get Rid Of Constipation Immediately And Naturally

The web is full of diverse cures, so here I summarize the best of them in one place. People are different, and what might work for one might not work for you. Try a variety of remedies until you find one that works. All of the natural constipation remedies found in this list are effective and good for your overall health.

Laxatives From The Drugstore

While I recommend curing your constipation using natural remedies, I think it is important to understand all the options so you can make the decision for yourself.

People tend to go for drugstore laxatives because they seem convenient, but they are only a short-term cure and don’t have any health benefits. Drugstore laxatives can even be harmful. They can contain chemicals that could cause increased thirst, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting and more. Prolonged use of some commercial laxatives can overstimulate nerves and lead to nerve damage.

Digestion is a balance. Pushing food through your system too quickly could mean that the body doesn’t have time to absorb its nutrients. Check out some of the best laxative here!

different laxatives

Some commercial laxatives combine different types, and sometimes include all five. This combination can be harmful so I would avoid combinations altogether.

Stool Softening Laxatives

Stool softening laxatives contain emollients that help to mix oil and water. They help bring water in to soften your stools. But they take 1 to 4 days to start working. So they are commonly used to prevent constipation rather than stop it. However, prolonged  prophylactic use can cause harm.

Bulk Creating Laxatives

Bulk creating laxatives are the safest of the drugstore laxatives, so they can be used for longer periods. Their ingredients have qualities that resemble foods high in fiber. This will help to create bulkier and heavier stools as well as help trap water for easy passing. Creating bulkier and heavier stools will trigger the colon to make a bowel movement.

Bulk creating laxatives are the better choice of drugstore laxatives because they provide fiber, which is a natural remedy for constipation. Even though they are safe, they are unnecessary, because you can get your fiber from a better diet.

Lubricant Laxatives

Rather than draw water in like a stool softener, lubricant laxatives add a layer of lubrication to the walls of the intestines that help stool pass more easily. There are two types: mineral oil lubricant laxative and glycerin oil lubricant laxative.

The mineral oil lubricant is taken orally, while glycerin oil is to be taken rectally. If your stools are severely hard and dry, then it is usually recommended to use the glycerin oil lubricant laxative. Lubricant laxatives tend to work in 1 to 4 hours which is great if you want to cure your constipation quickly.

Stimulant Laxatives

The stimulant laxative pretty much does what it says; it stimulates the intestinal muscles to push stools through the colon. While this sounds like exactly what you need, it is something that you should stay away from, because your intestinal muscles can become dependent on them. They can also damage these muscles and make your constipation worse. Stimulant laxatives should only rarely be used if at all.

Saline Laxatives

Saline laxatives work by drawing water into your digestive tract, which will then help to encourage bowel movement. The main reason people use saline laxatives is because they only take one to three hours to work so can provide instant constipation relief. Saline laxatives are commonly given to clear the bowels before a colonoscopy.

As with all drugstore laxatives, saline laxatives come with their side effects. Because they draw water so quickly, they can cause intense thirst and dehydration. Saline laxatives can cause kidney damage if taken high doses, so they should be avoided for people with kidney problems.

Herbal Laxatives

Now that I have explained drugstore laxatives, it is time to get onto the good stuff and why you’re here. Herbal laxatives are as effective as drugstore laxatives, but generally without the cost and side effects. Herbal laxatives are natural, unprocessed and chemical-free.

How To Get Rid Of Constipation Immediately and Naturally

Strong Herbal Laxatives

Some herbal laxatives should only be used when you’re suffering from severe constipation. Some of these strong herbal laxatives include buckthorn, senna, aloe and cascara sagrada. Check out juices for constipation here.

They work by irritating the nerves on the colon wall, which will then stimulate bowel movement to relieve constipation. They should only be used for severe constipation because the irritation they cause can be quite painful.

As with the overuse of drugstore laxatives, strong herbal laxatives can cause dependence too, because both can contain the same ingredients.

Moderate To Mild Herbal Laxatives

Moderate and mild herbal laxatives are safe and effective, and can help improve your overall health. Their goodness comes directly from the source with no processing or chemicals. Some of these mild and moderate herbal laxatives include black seeds, flax seeds, certified organic cloves and slippery elm.

It is best to create a mixture of these herbal remedies. Combining them will help to get rid of your constipation a lot faster.

Black Seeds

Black seeds are incredibly high in fiber which is just what you need to encourage healthier bowel movements. They will also help to improve the overall health of your digestive system. Black seeds help remove toxins and help regulate your bowel movements.

Olive Leaves

Olive leaves relieve discomfort. They contain oleuropein, which helps regulate bowel movements, and eliminate the toxins.

Flax Seeds

Flax seeds have many laxative properties, and are perfect curing mild to moderate constipation. Flax seeds have been used as a cure for constipation for centuries, dating back to ancient Egypt.

Flax Seeds have high amounts of fiber and omega 3 fatty acids, which are both elements that you want in an herbal laxative. They have so many other health benefits and should, be a staple food in your diet. You can add a tablespoon of flax seeds to your cereal, salads, yogurt, smoothies, soups… Add them to almost anything. Flax seeds need to be ground to work.

Just make sure that you grind flax seeds and not have them whole as they won’t work.

Cascara Sagrada

•Cascara sagrada is a strong herbal laxative for when your constipation is particularly bad. It works by irritating the wall of the colon to cause contraction. Cascara sagrada contains both chrysophanic acid and emodin, which both work to encourage bowel movements. When you combine it with other herbal laxatives, it will also work to detox the colon and tone the colon walls.Cascara sagrada should not be taken regularly. Once your constipation has been cured, do not use cascara sagrada again for at least 30 days even if your constipation returns during this 30 day waiting period.

Certified Organic Cloves

Organic cloves will help stop your constipation by removing unwelcome organisms from your digestive tract, and are a great addition to your diet.

Senna

  • Sennoside compounds found in senna help your bowel movements become smoother and more regular. Senna also helps soften stools so that passing isn’t as uncomfortable or painful.

Slippery Elm

Slippery elm is a great addition to your herbal laxative mixture as it can both soothe the digestive system and detox to your digestive system.

Slippery elm works by irritating the digestive tract so that it secretes more mucus. This mucus will then coat your gut to relieve sores and ulcers. Slippery elm is very high in fiber.

Bentonite

Bentonite is a clay-like substance formed from volcanic ash. The sodium in bentonite can bind toxins together, so they can be safely removed. It is best taken with high-fiber food to clean the colon and feed the good bacteria to prevent any future bouts of constipation.

Turkey Rhubarb

•Turkey rhubarb is another very powerful herbal remedy that has been used for hundreds of years. This natural remedy works miracles on your digestive system by cleansing it of clogged mucus, decaying fecal material and the excess waste that contribute to constipation. Because turkey rhubarb is so powerful, it should be diluted with other herbal remedies.

Aloe Vera

•Aloe Vera is another wonderful herbal remedy that has been used for hundreds of years for a number of conditions both internal and external. It is most commonly used for skin rashes, internal bleeding, burns, and ulcers. It can also help encourage regular bowel movements as well as cleanse the colon of toxins.

Peppermint

•Peppermint is like Aloe Vera in that it has so many health benefits that it would take all day to describe them all! It can help your digestive system by encouraging the production of bile, which produces a soothing effect on the lining of your gut.

Wormseed

Wormseed acts fast to help purify your intestinal tract of harmful bacteria without removing or damaging beneficial bacteria. This helps regulate bowel movements and prevent both constipation and diarrhea.

Thyme Oil Powder

Thyme oil powder also acts as a purifier that soothes your digestive system and removes toxins to with constipation.

Garlic Extract

Garlic extract improves your immune system and enhances the beneficial bacteria in your digestive system. This is a great herb to have as a staple in your diet to promote good health.

Flax Seed Oil

I want to go into flax seed oil in detail, because it is so effective in getting rid of your constipation quickly. Flax seeds have been a natural remedy for a lot of things for thousands of years.  They are high in fiber and omega 3 fatty acids.

However processed flax seed oil does not contain any fiber; only the oil is left. The oil adds a layer of lubricant to your intestines to make passing smoother and easier.

Flax seed oil is better than mineral oil in that mineral oil reduces vitamins A, D, E, and K whereas flax seed oil does not.

Why It Helps

This doesn’t always work for everyone, but for some, it gets the digestive system moving.

Exercise

Many people who have suffered from constipation have said that exercise helps with constipation. Moving your body probably stimulates the movement of your internal muscles too.
