Sometimes, one of the reasons why we find it difficult to sleep at night is because of our sleep position. Every person sleeps differently. 

Some prefer to sleep on their back, on the side, and sometimes, on their stomach. 

Here’s everything you need to know about the different sleep positions.

  • Back Sleeper

Most people sleep on their backs. This is the most common sleeping position in the world. Sleeping this way is very comfortable since it distributes the weight evenly, and lowers the pressure on your neck, joints, and spine.

  • Side Sleeper

Sleeping on the side is less prone to snoring. However, this sleep position will make you more likely to experience nerve compression that would lead to neck and back pain. This sleeping position can sometimes lead to sciatic nerve pain.

  • Stomach Sleeper

Sleeping on your tummy will have a negative impact on digestion and blood circulation, which can put more pressure on your neck and back. 

  • Upper Body Elevation

Sleeping with your upper body in an inclined position can lower acid reflux. In some cases, this can help minimize snoring. 

Aside from sleeping positions, the type of pillow that you use can also affect your quality of sleep. Thus, using the right pillow is important. 

It should be able to support your body and can facilitate a healthier sleeping position, allowing you to enjoy a more restful sleep at night.
