Cellulite is a bugbear for every woman. No matter how skinny or toned we are, it seems to pop up in the most horrible of places. Our thighs and butt are the most common places for cellulite to form.
We don’t really care why it forms. All we want to know is how to get rid of it. What can we do that will make it disappear within minutes—well, okay, days? Can we get rid of the problem or is it something that we must put up with for the rest of our days.
Well, the great news is that we can reduce and hide cellulite. It is possible to get rid of it completely, but while we do get rid of it, we can also hide it away and make sure nobody else sees it.
These are the two things that I’m going to cover today—no pun intended. I’m going to teach you just how you can get rid of cellulite completely.
Wait! What Exactly Is Cellulite?
Okay, so I know I said that we don’t care about what it is, but that’s not completely true. There are so many of us who want to know how and why it forms. If we know that, there’s a higher chance that we will be able to stop it from forming again in the future, right?
The downside is that some of us are genetically predisposed to developing cellulite. This genetic element to it is a pain in the behind. There’s very little that we can do about cellulite forming; at least that’s what it seems.
So, onto some good news. It’s not all about the genetics. There are many other reasons for it forming.
Let’s just start with what cellulite is first. It forms by fat protruding through the connective tissues. The fats form lumps through the tissue, making your skin look lumpy, bumpy, and full of dimples. It’s why cellulite is always linked to people being overweight, even though that’s not the exact reason for it forming.
There are different grades of cellulite, too! Grade 1 is cellulite that isn’t visible, even when the skin is pinched. So, it’s clear that we all have cellulite, no matter how fit or toned we are. It’s present but not always visible. This moves up to Grade 4, which is visible regardless of your positioning. Many people suffer from Grade 3, where it’s visible when standing but not while lying down.
While Grade 1 isn’t visible, only around 10 percent of people will deal with this grade in their lifetime. Most people must manage some type of cellulite. The great news is that most your friends will understand what it is and why you want to get rid of it.
So, Why Does Cellulite Form?
While it is genetic, I said that there are many reasons for the formation of cellulite.
It is mostly linked to those who are overweight. This isn’t the only reason, but it is prominent in many people who have too much body fat. Anybody can be affected by the condition, and it is actually linked to an unhealthy lifestyle. This doesn’t just mean an unhealthy diet, but due to smoking, poor exercise levels, and health issues.
The best way to know if you are going to deal with cellulite in your lifetime is to look at the older women in your family, though. If they have it, there are high chances you will get it, too. It’s not just women! Men do get cellulite, too, so you’ll want to look at the older men in your family.
Our genes affect the way that fat is stored in the body. The genes affect the way fat pulls on bands of tissue, allowing it to sneak through those bands and to the top layers of your skin.
It’s not the main reason for developing cellulite. It’s just one reason for it to form.
Weight management issues are the main reason for people to suffer from cellulite. If you are overweight, you’ll have more fat pulling down on the bands of tissue and forcing their way through the body. Since women carry most of their fat around their butts, thighs, and hips, they will see more cellulite than men.
To be honest, having cellulite is much better than dealing with the visceral fat, which is more common in men. At least there isn’t fat around the organs!
As you start to lose weight, you should find that your cellulite isn’t as much of a problem. It can still be an issue since you will also need to tone up your muscles and tissues and improve your water intake. Your overall lifestyle needs to be much healthier than it currently is.
It’s Time to Hide Your Cellulite
Before we look at completely removing cellulite, it’s time to find ways to hide that it’s even there. You’ll want to cover it up, so you can enjoy those beach parties and slip into that pretty number for your partner.
Start by Boosting Your Water Intake
Let’s start by improving your water intake. Dehydration affects your body in more ways than headaches. It disrupts everything about you; all the processes that keep your body functioning as it should.
One of the problems with dehydration is that it affects the collagen production in your skin. If the collagen is produced properly, you will find that the layers of your skin are more flexible. They won’t allow the fat to push through as many connective tissues, helping to smooth out the blemishes in your upper layers. Your connective tissues are also stronger because they have the flexibility needed.
Dry skin doesn’t bounce back the way that fully hydrated skin does. When the skin is pinched or folded, it won’t smooth back the way it originally was. This can allow gaps to form for the fat to push through, causing more cellulite.
Enjoy a Massage All Over
There’s never been a better excuse to get a massage. Forget about the relaxation benefits, and focus on the way it will help improve the look of your skin.
The massage will help to boost your circulation. You’ll get more blood flowing around the body and improve the amount that reaches the top layers of your skin. Your skin becomes plumper and much firmer than it was before.
While the cellulite doesn’t go away, it doesn’t look as bad. You can help to promote the smoothness of the skin temporarily. The problem is that you’ll need to keep opting for massages throughout the week. You’ll only get a great skin for a day or two. If you have an event coming up, you’ll need to get a massage the day before to get all the benefits.
Cupping is one of the most beneficial types of massages for cellulite. It will force the blood to raise to the surface of the skin, evening out the layers and reducing the look of the fat. Cupping massages are extremely popular by sports people, with many Olympians favouring them during the 2016 Rio Olympics. The downside is that cupping massages are painful.
Opt for Beauty Products
Another way to hide your cellulite is by using the right beauty products for your skin. You want to find products that will help with the toning and firming of your skin to hide the blemishes.
Let’s start with some skin firming creams. After all, you want to tone the skin, right? The firming creams will help to boost the connective tissues and improve the layers of skin to prevent the fats from pushing through as much.
The firming creams will actually affect the cellulite directly. While this is only temporary, it is still effective and will last the night or day that you need to have perfect skin. You can also take creams with you so you can apply them daily. There’s no need to worry about the look of your skin if you opt for using them in this way.
Some of the creams will use silicon. These creams will fill in the holes that the fats have caused, so your skin looks smooth. Some of the creams have added ingredients to get underneath the initial layer of skin. The ingredients help to tighten skin from underneath, so you don’t feel the effect with your fingers.
Or you could opt for tanning products instead. Those with darker skin won’t have as visible cellulite as those with darker skin. So, it’s worth using creams that will give your skin a darker tint, even fake tans that will help to cover up your blemishes and marks quickly.
A natural tan will work but do be careful with the methods that you take to get these tans. Sun beds and natural sun rays both have their negative effects, including the potential of causing cancer. The last thing you want is to affect your health all to hide your cellulite negatively.
When you use creams, watch out for those that include toxic chemicals. You want natural products as much as possible since toxins can just lead to your cellulite looking worse!
Dry Brush the Affected Areas
Another effective method for hiding cellulite is dry brushing. This works exfoliating in with massaging. Not only are you going to remove the dead skin cells, but you’re bringing the blood up to the surface to give you very similar benefits to a massage. And it’s going to work out cheaper since you can do it all from home.
You’ll want to get a brush that has bristles strong enough to exfoliate the skin. While brushing, moving in circular motions. This is good for exfoliating anyway since it will remove the dead skin cells. But the circular motions will also help with the circulation boost. You’ll actually get the toxins out of your body, too, which helps with reducing the look of the cellulite.
Once you have finished with dry brushing, make sure that you moisturise the area. The skin can become very dry very quickly after exfoliating. Your pores are also open, allowing dirt and grime to get in there to cause acne and other skin issues. The last thing you want is more unsightly issues because you forgot to do this one step after dry brushing!
You can use a tinted moisturising cream, as long as it is toxin free. You’ll get the best for your skin since you’ll keep it hydrated and apple some sort of tinting to help reduce the look of cellulite.
You Can Always Opt for the Right Clothing
You don’t need to change the look of the skin to hide your cellulite. Sometimes it’s all about choosing the right type of clothing.
While on the beach, you may want to find something that you can wear without feeling too hot and stuffy. Why not buy a sarong for over your bikini? You’ll cover up your legs while being fashionable for the environment.
If you’re not going to the beach, you have a few other options. Trying to hide the appearance of bumps under a tight fitting dress? You could always opt for shaping underwear instead.
How Can You Reduce Cellulite Permanently?
Now that you know how to hide your cellulite, it’s time to reduce it permanently. What steps can you take never to have to worry about the look of your skin again?
Well, remember that it is linked to fat. While you don’t want to cut out all fat, you want to reduce some of the fat in your body. That means focusing on a calorie controlled, healthy diet.
Make it a priority to lose weight now. Get to a healthy BMI but make sure you tone your body at the same time. There are a few ways that you can do that.
Start with a Healthy Diet
Let’s focus on the eating first of all. It’s important to create a calorie deficit, where you eat fewer calories than your body burns off. Your body will need to burn off the extra calories that your body has stored over time so that you start to lose some of the weight.
You can’t do this by starving yourself. It’s important to follow a diet that is healthy and sustainable. Following a diet that will help you reducing your food intake temporarily and go back to eating as you used to before you lost weight is bad for you. You don’t teach yourself the healthy habits and end up going back to eating what you used to. You’ll end up gaining the weight all over again, and then you just end up dealing with cellulite again.
Do You Really Want to Deal with That?
If you opt for a healthy eating plan, you just reduce the number of calories you eat. Once it comes to maintaining your weight, you just balance out the calories you eat with the calories you burn.
Healthy eating also means that you’re less likely to binge. You’re not saying no to the food that you love but not right now. You’re reducing the amount you have and eating everything in moderation. You’re also increasing the number of nutrients that you get in your diet, which will help improve your overall lifestyle.
Try to clean up your diet, rather than just focusing on a reduced intake of calories. Opt for less processed food and refined sugar in your diet. Focus more on the healthy fruits and vegetables and opt for meals that sustain you throughout the day. It’s also worth cutting back on the drinking and focusing more on drinking plenty of water.
Improve Your Fitness Levels
While you focus on a healthy diet, you need to tone your muscles. This is especially important around your legs and butt. You need to help your tissues tone and strengthen, so the fat can push through as easily.
This is another reason to eat a healthy diet. When you get just enough calories to keep your body fueled without going over, you have the energy to do an exercise plan. You don’t feel drained, meaning that you’re more likely to skip it every day.
Leg exercises aren’t too difficult to do, and you don’t need any specialist equipment for most them. You can do the workouts in your own home, and there are plenty of home workout DVD’s and YouTube videos to follow to get you started. If you want to join a gym or hire a personal trainer, then that is something that you can do, but you really don’t need to.
Some of the best leg exercises include:
- Lunges
- Squats
- Leg raises
- Hip raises
Squats come in a variety of ways to do them so you can work on different areas of your legs to tone them fully.
Cardio workouts are also great for losing weight. Running, swimming, and even rowing are among the most popular options. You can grab a friend and go for a walk somewhere every day to help you increase the amount of exercise you do daily.
Add Some Extra Flaxseed to Your Diet
If you’re not going to clean up your diet completely, at least add an ingredient that is great for getting rid of cellulite. Flaxseed is extremely easy to add to meals and is full of protein and fibre. The best part about flaxseed is that it helps to boost your collagen growth.
The ingredient helps with the balance of hormones. It supports the oestrogen in the body, which can sometimes have negative effects on the body. When you have, more collagen growing, your skin is strengthened, and you don’t look like you have as much cellulite.
This affect is more permanent than the massaging. It’s more on a level of changing your diet. You actually make a permanent change within the body as long as you keep adding flaxseed to your diet.
What About the Plastic Wraps?
There are now various diets that involve toning the body instead of changing your eating habits. These all tend to involve the use of plastic wraps.
The truth is that these wraps can help. People wrap them around the parts of the body they hate and the heat created helps to sweat away from the excess fat. You end up with the fat literally dripping off.
Before you choose anything, you’ll want to check on this with your doctor. The plastic may cause irritation and affect other skin conditions. You’ll always want to make sure you are following a healthy diet and are drinking plenty to replenish the water you lose through the sweat.
Are You Ready to Lose Your Cellulite?
Cellulite is a pain, and none of us is exempt from it. It’s not just a sign of being overweight. This is something that all women can end up dealing with, and even some men have to put up with it.
Well, now it’s time to stop just putting up with it being there. You can make some changes to avoid cellulite forming again and hide the stuff that you do have while you permanently reduce the issue that you currently have.
It’s time to make some changes to your diet and exercise plan. Start working on losing weight and toning your body. If you’re more prone to cellulite through genetics than others, you’ll want to put in a little extra effort, especially in the toning.
While you wait for the weight loss to kick in, you can work on hiding your cellulite. It’s not all about covering up with clothing. Using the right products and beauty treatments, you can make a complete change to the way that you look. And with the better-looking skin you’ll have more confidence.
You can reduce and hide your cellulite in no time with the tips above. There’s no time like the present to make the changes and have better-looking skin.
